Grief Flags
Inspired by Tibetan Prayer Flags, Grief Flags offer a meaningful way to express love, support, and sympathy for anyone experiencing loss or navigating a difficult time. The flags are hand printed with care and intention using block and screen printing techniques. They can be hung indoors or out and over time the fabric will naturally fade and fray—an intentional and traditional aspect that symbolizes how blessings, healing thoughts, and messages of strength and love are carried by the wind out into the world.
You may choose from pre-designed sets that resonate with you or create a custom set to honor a loved one’s memory. I have had the honor of working with loved ones, to create flags that celebrate loved ones at a memorial services or to celebrate anniversaries. Hanging these flags can create a special, sacred space—one as unique as your grief and as beautiful as the memories you hold dear. The flags are often a daily reminder you that others are walking with you on this journey.
You can find more information about specific flag sets below.
Grief Flags~ This flag set was created with images of aspen trees and some quotes around sympathy and loss. (Available in multiple colors.)
Look to the Stars~ When I am missing someone, I often look to the sky. The sunrise, the sunset, the wind, the stars, and the moon to remember and to connect with those I love. This set was designed as a panorama of the sky to capture the moments and remember. (Available in multiple colors.)
Forever in my Heart~ This set is adorned with outdoor images and the quote of remembrance, "The ones we love are always in our hearts". Folks have also used this flag set to honor and remember pets who have passed. In that case I have sometimes customized them by adding a small paw print and the pets name under the stonewall on the last panel. (Available in multiple colors.)
Tell the Bees ~ These flags were created to celebrate the bees and the practice of "telling the bees”that I first learned about in Celtic Folklore. This ancient tradition is rooted in the belief that bees are deeply connected to human life and the spirit world. It was customary to inform the beehive of significant life events, such as births, marriages, and deaths. It was also believed that the bees may act as intermediaries between the living and those we have lost. That they might carry memories, messages and love, allowing us to whisper our grief, love, and stories to the bees with the hope they may travel to the ones we miss.
May these flags offer one way to honor and support one another in celebrating, grieving and missing loved ones. (Available in multiple colors.)
Forget Me Not~ These flags have images of the outdoors and end with a print of Forget me nots- This set was originally created to celebrate the anniversary of a friend who passed, to remember and honor and share their beautiful spirit and story. (Available in multiple colors.)
Thinking of You~ This set of flags was originally designed to support someone who was moving to hospice care.
